Olive trees, pines and figs grow luxuriantly in the rocky terrain of Sesimbra, a village on the Portuguese coast south of Lisbon. Nestled in a sloping terrain is the holiday home that Extrastudio built for a couple of sisters and their families.
The Portuguese studio designed two independent volumes, united by a single large terrace, each surrounded by a rectangular metal pergola. Over time, this structure will be invaded by climbing plants such as ivy, jasmine and vines, which will create a proper green roof to cool the interior and provide mediating spaces between the garden and domestic environments, which overlook to the landscape through full height openings.
The exterior of the house is rugged and rough, with exposed concrete aggregates making the surface look like a skin and allowing the houses to integrate visually with the coastal landscape.
