The building designed by Maurizio Oddo, founder of Studio Boma, lies in a newly developed area on the outskirts of Erice, in the extreme north-west of Sicily. It is a single-family dwelling designed in such a way as to create a close relationship between indoor and outdoor space, also thanks to the net volume of the brise-soleil.
The plan has been dictated by the long and narrow shape of the site and is centred around a double-height space that features a large rooflight that frames an aerial landscape. Developed on two storeys above ground, the house terminates in a roof garden, anticipated by the glass box of the rooflight and the large circular opening of the roof in exposed reinforced concrete. All the floors are connected by articulated spaces that from basement level lead up to the terrace in a series of light wells.
The wall facing the garden features an insert in Sicilian majolica, a homage to Mediterranean style.
