A strong dialogue with the spirit and specific character of a place is an undeniable element in the making of architecture. This is certainly how Jean Nouvel thinks and he demonstrates it once more in an exhibition that the Louisiana museum dedicates to his work.
An exhibition, curated and designed by Nouvel himself, that acts as a manifesto and compendium of his ideas and philosophies regarding design. Drawings, sketches, models and photographs do not descend into the museum from on high but seek rather a dialogue with the collection and bright spaces of the Danish museum. Various approaches were considered, then Nouvel decided to describe the discovery of this enchanted place set on a green promontory alongside the sea as if it were a sequence in a film, blending it with his own story.
On show are his more famous projects (from the Opera House in Lyons to the Fondation Cartier and the Arab Institute building in Paris), with a special look at the Ørestaden concert hall, due to be finished in 2006 bringing him notoriety and media attention also in Denmark. E.S.
