Pei delights Berlin

After six years of work, the new Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin opens to the public; designed by I.M. (Ieoh Ming) Pei, it is entirely dedicated to temporary exhibitions.

Antique pieces blend perfectly with the new architecture in the scheme by the eighty six year old architect, author of the Washington Gallery and the pyramid at the Louvre in Paris, who was commissioned in 1997 by German Chancellor at the time, Helmet Kohl.

And if detractors point the finger at the excessive building costs (54 million euro) for a country in deep economic recession, public opinion and the press are instead greeting with enthusiasm the new Berlin icon.
