After appearing first at the Architecture Biennale in Venice, an exhibition of drawings by Carlo Scarpa is now showing in Rome. Thirty six original drawings – chosen from five hundred – carried out by the Venetian architect for the pavilions at the Biennale over the course of twenty years, from 1948 to 1968.

The route through the exhibition opens with the uncompleted project for a temporary pavilion at the Lido, follows on with the new entrance and ticket office for the Giardini (1951-52) and continues with the pavilions for Venezuela and Italy, built in the sixties.

The exhibition represents a great occasion to present the Archivio Scarpa, which became state property last year, is currently being reorganised and which is awaiting a permanent home. The collection is made up of 31,400 pieces which include drawings, sketches, photographs, audio-visual material and project information dating from 1927 to 1978.
