Italian Luca Curci Architects and Canadian designer Tim Fu have come up with a floating city that they say could be an important aid device against climate change. The island would be powered entirely by renewable energy from a variety of sources. In fact, several clean energy resources are incorporated, such as wind turbines, water and solar panels, as well as solutions for energy storage and water desalination. Food production are integrated to the site following a strict zero-waste policy.
A 50,000-person, self-sustaining floating city prototype
Luca Curci Architects, in collaboration with designer Tim Fu, presented a model featuring interconnected functional platforms powered entirely by renewable energy.

The Floating City community will feature a total of 25 acres of interconnected platforms, capable of housing more than 50,000 people. Each neighborhood contains high and low buildings surrounded by a membrane of photovoltaic glass that provide electricity to the entire floating system and make it energy independent. Green areas and vertical gardens are then organized throughout the available area, while each floating island will include a community facility for living, including markets, spiritual and cultural centers. It is possible to reach the floating city by water or by air. The floating city is equipped with outer and inner piers and several naval accesses. In addition, each floating platform is equipped with drone ports.
The urban system of the floating city is designed to incorporate technologies characteristic of smart cities and to connect more than 50,000 people by dividing the platforms into functional areas. The main residential floating platform is connected via water and air to all other platforms of offices, government departments, health facilities and educational institutions, including all levels of schools and universities.
