Along with traditional EV cars like the P7 sedan and G3 SUV, Chinese EV manufacturer Xpeng Motors (NYSE: XPEV) invests heavily on flying cars through its Huitian division. The company’s latest flying vehicle, the X2, has been recently revealed by Xpeng’s CEO He Xiaopeng on Weibo, who also shared a 1.5-minute video of the flying car in action.
The X2, which resembles a large quadcopter, weighs 360Kg and can stand a max takeoff weight of 560Kg. Like Xpeng’s road cars, the X2 sports a battery powering its eight electric rotors. The flying range, for now, is limited to 35 minutes, with a maximum flying speed of 130Km/h.
While Xpeng has developed the X2 with safety in mind, the flying car remains a test vehicle that’s still far away from commercial availability. Moreover, all the flight tests performed so far have been conducted with uncrewed prototypes.
