Announced last summer, the Neom project envisions the construction of an entire region in Saudi Arabia, consisting of ten different projects, details of which have so far been announced of Oxagon, Trojena, Sindalah, and certainly the best known The Line. The area covered includes a total of 26,500 square kilometers, located in the ord-west of Saudi Arabia and bounded to the south by the Red Sea and to the west by the Gulf of Aqaba. Due to the vastness of the area included in the plan, Neom recently announced plans to also launch its own airline, which is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2024.
The airline will allow all tourists, residents and business partners to travel to and from the megacities under construction. The airline will initially upgrade existing equipment and technologies, but plans to invest in next-generation electric, hydrogen-powered, or supersonic aircraft starting in 2026, to offer a sustainable, and digitally advanced flight experience.
Neom Airlines will begin operations from the current Neom Bay airport, which opened in 2019, offering domestic flights in Saudi Arabia and international flights to London and Dubai. The airline will later move its HQs to Neom International Airport, which is under construction. The new airline plans to ensure a huge commitment to sustainability, granting that every flight is operated with sustainable fuel from its blending facilities, and examine every single component to ensure sustainability, down to the carpets and disposable plastic.
Finally, the airline wil aim to provide a superior technological experience, with biometric face recognition systems planned to be built in the facilities, so to avoid any queue due to passport controls.
