The Salone del Bagno and Eurocucina bring to the Salone del Mobile every two years, decor solutions for those domestic spaces that are most called upon to respond to technical and functional demands. Cancelled this year as a result of the Covid-19 health emergency, these two events will now be part of the 2021 Salone del Mobile (from 13 April to 18 April), set to be an important edition not only because the Salone will be celebrating its sixtieth anniversary but also as it will include the other two biennial fairs, dedicated to lighting and the office. Companies have responded in different ways to the postponement: some have decided to communicate the products that they were working on for 2020 while others have preferred to stay with the items already in the catalogue and delay the launch of new products to next spring. Looking at the overall, technological research and innovative use of materials prove to be the frontier of contemporaneity and the dimension that best represents this approach is the flexibility that makes it possible to create a large number of applicative solutions.

In the words of the designer, Patricia Urquiola, “Rigo has arisen from an interpretation of architectural elements: two beams with simple and elegant lines support various elements and enable the top to be customised”. A strong architectural inspiration is evident in this system of bathroom furniture that combines wood, marble and anodised aluminium for the structure and is completed with a detailed series of trays and containers that enable multiple configurations.
A cement-based agglomerate made up of granules of Pietra di Vicenza salvaged by recycling waste from processing in the Grassi Pietre quarries, white Portland cement and water, Pietranova combines a superior aesthetic result with physical-chemical resistance that makes it ideal for creating elements of furniture and finishes.
This bathroom unit has been designed to complete the eclectic Moon collection of sinks. The generous sink bowl is held and supported by a light and simple structure made from metal tubing that frames the object and visually highlights the contrast between the slender edges and generous proportions.
With this palette, set up by Andrea Parisio and Giuseppe Pezzano, the company from Viterbo has investigated the application of colour to ceramic, taking the bathroom beyond the technical and into sensory perception. Colour plays a fundamental role in communicating to the user more complex meanings. The gloss colours of Acque di Cielo take inspiration from nature with six variations: Oltremare, Smeraldo, Alga, Corallo, Ninfea and Anemone.
The collections created in Flumood® have been enhanced with new reflections: the warmth and brightness of bronze and brass create a dialogue in the Albume sink made from transparent Cristalmood® by Carlo Colombo. “Metallo liquido” is the new finish sprayed also onto the surfaces of the bathtubs: the light and iridescent coating enhances the volumes. Without protection with the subsequent process of oxidisation, during which the finish is enhanced giving each product its own colour and texture that is always different and changes over time. The coating is available in Copper, Brass and Bronze.
The Happy D.2 Plus range by Sieger Design has evolved thanks to the use of c-shaped technology. This development of the patented, c-bonded process guarantees an exact correspondence between the rounded form of the ceramic basin and the unit made from DuraCeram® without protrusions or recesses, with a precise 4mm joint.
Starting from the iconic sink designed in 1972 by Milanese architect Paolo Tilche for Ideal Standard, Ludovica and Roberto Palomba have softened the corners to modernise it with a square and minimalist design without betraying its original unique and sophisticated character. This range of sinks enables flexible installation – fixing to a wall or countertop and has been extended with two new formats – 50 and 120 cm.
The modular design of this bathroom furniture enables a high degree of flexibility in the creation of tailor-made arrangements, able to satisfy any stylistic or functional requirement. The Code Mono version consists of monobloc compositions with an aluminium structure that highlights the essential linearity.
At the last Cersaie, the company presented, among other products, the Madre range by Angeletti Ruzza Design: sinks and sanitary fittings made from ceramic and inspired by Italian rationalist architecture. Harmonious shapes and proportions form the point of contact between the contemporary product and its classic inspiration.
Using a simple language and rigorous construction geometry, Patricia Urquiola has created a bathroom collection that brings out the characteristics of SaphirKeramik, the malleable and robust material developed by Lauren. The series includes freestanding and wall-mounted washbasins, two single bowls and a double bowl.
Colour and finish have made a decisive entry into the bathroom environment. In keeping with this move, this Piedmontese company embarked some time ago on a course that emphasises use of colour, introducing new ideas into the bathroom space. The Finishes Selection has now been extended with six new colours: polished, brushed and satin rose gold; brushed dark bronze; satin black chrome and satin champagne. In the photo, the rose gold finish enhances the Glitter and Pois range.
Characterised by their simple, streamlined aesthetics, this range of single-lever mixer taps proposed by Guglielmi has taken colour as its focal point, to the extent of even inspiring the name. The element on which this stylistic choice is concentrated is the control with its matt and gloss finishes that create colour effects that range from wood to marble and Corina, allowing maximum customisation of compositions that are suitable for use in bathroom and kitchen environments.
Fantini continue to focus on the Aboutwater collection created with Boffi: expressive languages by international designers that represent, each in their own specific way, a high aesthetic content. One of the top products is the complete AA/27 series by Michael Anastassiades presented last year at the Fuorisalone. Simple and balanced, the tap is made up of two distinct elements – the knob and the spout – connected by a third horizontal cylindrical element.
A successful collection from Fir Italia, Kelio 63 emphasises through its square forms a visual notion of simplicity. In order to fully develop the functional aspects of the design, the Piedmont- based company decided to fit the mixers in the Kelio range with a device that significantly reduces the flow of the water: today all the mixers in the range have a green aerator that enables considerable savings in terms of water consumption.
Marco Pisati has designed the Soffio mixer tap for Alzo di Pella. The originality of the tap lies in the ergonomic shape of the trapezoidal lever that, tilted upwards, stands over the square body below, accentuating the antithesis between the rationality expressed by the barrel and the lightness of the lever.
The appeal of industrial taps with their charm and traditional hydraulic and gas ball valves is the inspiration for a sleek reworking in the form of the Valvola series designed by Studio Adolini in the name of maximum flexibility, with elements that can be freely combined to suit any situation and requirement. Thanks to a single, built-in control system that means it can be used with different supply elements, various formal solutions can be created according to an extensive typological programme.
