“The Heb table is a statement on Desalto’s new direction”, Francesco Rota, Desalto’s designer and art director, explains to Domus. With its a strongly industrial look, Heb now joins Desalto’s wide table collection. “Ours is a very strong statement on the use of metal, a material that is in the company’s DNA and will be at the center in Desalto’s upcoming collections. The supporting beam is an easily recognizable element, which we all have our architectural imagination and vocabulary”. The product takes its technical name, “Heb”, from the type of supporting beam used, indicating proportions, dimensions, and static and mechanical characteristics. The structural support is not concealed; instead, it prominently emerges at the head of the table, becoming its defining feature. The beam is supported by two or three metal trestles, depending on the version of the table, featuring hexagonal tube covers.
A flexible table with an industrial look
Designed by Francesco Rota for Desalto, the Heb table is characterized by an aesthetic that is both industrial and refined. Its key element is the metal support beam, which also inspired the product’s name.

Not only are the aesthetics of the supporting beam enhanced, but also its structural properties. “We can describe the Heb as a floating table, featuring a substantial void underneath. It can span up to 4 meters with just two trestles; however, we’ve included a third trestle for lengths up to six meters”, explains Francesco Rota. “Another noteworthy aspect of the Heb table is its continuity: it’s a piece that can potentially extend indefinitely, or one might even consider it a customizable table by the meter, allowing you to determine the size. Naturally, we’ve capped it at a maximum length of 6 meters, considering practical limits in production and transportation”. This new Desalto product is particularly suitable for contract projects or homes with an international, metropolitan feel. It is specifically designed for coworking spaces and communal areas, but it's also well-suited for spacious home environments, particularly where the dining room serves as a central gathering area. “The 6-meter version we showcased at the Salone del Mobile featured a particular finish for the top – ultramarine blue mirror: a material choice often used in the 1930s to decorate furniture components and that Desalto has adopted before”. The Heb table not only embodies the new direction of this Italian brand but also encapsulates the entire focus of its new art director on Desalto's heritage, history, and identity.
