NOVECENTO The Return to Figuration from Sironi to Guttuso

From 22 July to 26 November, Palazzo delle Paure will be hosting the exhibition NOVECENTO. The Return to Figuration from Sironi to Guttuso.

A new chapter in a narrative dedicated to Twentieth Century Italian painting is due to be inaugurated in Lecco. From 22 July to 26 November, Palazzo delle Paure will be hosting the exhibition NOVECENTO. The Return to Figuration from Sironi to Guttuso.

Curated by Simona Bartolena and produced and organised by ViDi Cultural in collaboration with the Municipality of Lecco and the Lecco Urban Museum Network, the exhibition will be presenting more than 60 works by artists such as Mario Sironi, Carlo Carrà, Giorgio Morandi, Felice Casorati, Arturo Martini, Giacomo Manzù, Mario Mafai, Renato Guttuso and many more.

Maestros who, in the period between the two world wars, led a return to figuration without distancing themselves from the avant-garde spirit that they fostered at the beginning of the century, a form of figurative art that in some way marked a return to the classics while maintaining the idea of the new century.

“This sees the return of important exhibitions to Palazzo delle Paure”, stated Simona Piazza, the councillor for Culture for the Municipality of Lecco. "We have been promoting large-scale exhibitions in the high-quality museum hub in our city. This new exhibition dedicated to the Twentieth Century comes in the wake of the one dedicated to the Futurists, which recently concluded to great acclaim from visitors, and while covering a similar period in time, presents a more figurative and classical artistic path. The aim is to offer an exploration of the 19th and 20th centuries that also brings together the themes and works shown in our modern art gallery, allowing visitors to discover and learn about art right up to the first half of last century”.

The exhibition presents mostly works from private collections, with the exception of significant loans from the Museo della Permanente in Milan and from the BPM collection. These are rarely exhibited works, and the majority are being presented to the public for the first time ever. It is not to be missed.
