From 11 November 2022 until 8 January 2023, the Santa Giulia Museum in Brescia will be presenting an exhibition that is highly topical as well as artistic; “Victoria Lomasko. The Last Soviet Artist.” An exhibition that aims to present to the public the social and political history of Russia from 2011 until the present day, from anti-Putin demonstrations to the story of the deepest, marginalised and forgotten aspects of Russia; the most difficult and the poorest Russia. Lomasko is presented through a particularly socially introspective solo artist exhibition which, in a certain manner, reflects Russian despotism, in net contrast to a Europe governed by a great free spirit that, to cite Herodotus, is founded on living in accordance with laws that are never the whim of a despot. Considered by critics as the most important Russian social artist, Lomasko, who is still largely unknown to Italian spectators, is also the author of “Other Russias”, which was awarded the Pushkin Prize.

“In Russia there is an emigration of intelligence: émigrés cross the frontier in order to read and to write good books. But in doing so they contribute to making their fatherland, abandoned by spirit, into the gaping jaws of Asia that would like to swallow our little Europe.” Friedrich Nietzsche.
