An unmissable opportunity to discover the work of one of the most influential artists of our time.
From 19 March 2024, the PAC Padiglione d’arte contemporanea in Milan will be presenting the first European retrospective dedicated to Adrian Piper, the Afro-American artist born in New York City in 1948.
The exhibition, curated by Diego Sileo, looks back over sixty years of career through more than 100 works, including performances, videos, installations, paintings and sculptures. Winner of the Golden Lion at the 2015 International Art Exhibition in Venice, Adrian Piper is an artist who has always used his work to explore pressing themes such as racism, misogyny, xenophobia and social injustice. His work is provocative and often challenging, but it always manages to foster reflection and discussion.
The exhibition offers an extensive view of his career, from the early days in the Sixties to more recent works. Loans from the most prestigious European and American museums include works such as "The Mythic Being", "What It's Like, White Boy", "Calling Cards" and "A Synthesis of Intuitions".
One cannot remain indifferent when faced with Adrian Piper’s art. His works lead the viewer to examine themselves and the society in which they live, to question their own prejudices and to reflect on the injustices of the world.
The retrospective at the PAC is an unmissable opportunity to discover the work of one of the most influential artists of our time. A fundamental figure in the history of contemporary art, an artist who has managed to use his talent to lend a voice to those who have none, and to promote social change.
