Tesla’s Solar Roof is one of the cleverest ideas in the solar panel market right now: instead of selling you bulky but efficient panels to install on your roof (and power you car in the garage, among other things), Elon Musk company flipped the idea around and created smaller panels akin to roof tiles that are a less efficient but easier to install over a larger surface. Solar Roof tiles, now in their third (and hopefully perfected) iteration, are not cheap, though. In the U.S. you’ll need around $42,500 to cover a 185,5 square meters surface. According to the company, that’s still cheaper than replacing the roof and installing new panels. That means that Solar Tiles, as Tesla itself admits, are convenient only if you’re building a new house or if you were planning to completely restore or replace your roof anyway. The Solar Roof tiles come with all the important certifications and, above all, a 25-years warranty. For now they’ll be available in the U.S. market only, but Tesla plans to expand its offer to Europe sometime in 2020.
Tesla Solar Roof tiles are now ready to hit the market
