Elena Salmistraro designs Milan’s pride and joy

The polyhedric designer has been invited by Vitra to interpetare the spirit of the metropolis with an installation at Spotti Milano.

Milan is preparing for the Milano Pride event, which on 29 June 2019 will invade its streets with a large festive, colourful and open parade to celebrate all diversities, not only those related to sexual orientation. The city of Milan is increasingly a multicultural and cosmopolitan centre, capable of attracting dynamic and creative people who are able to continually rethink it. Urban Living Milano is the creative challenge conceived by Vitra, which has called on Elena Salmistraro to interpret the lifeblood of the Lombard capital inside the Spotti Milano furniture store.

The eclectic personality of Salmistraro – at the same time a painter, illustrator and designer – is ideal for interpreting the theme of Vitra Home Stories 2019. Shades, figures, experimentations and allusions are freely and continuously mixed in four domestic environments: living, dining, studying and playing. The scenery designed by the Milanese designer – which combines home and city – hosts some of the great classics of the Vitra collection: the Living Tower by Verner Panton, the Eames Elephant, the Marshmallow Sofa by George Nelson, the Standard Chair by Jean Prouvé... Salmistraro transversally employs the colour and material library of the Swiss company to portray an early summer Milanese sunset: warm, cheerful and proud.
