Born and raised in Slovakia, the East wasn’t something unknown or exotic for me however as the country is nowadays transforming and moving towards Europe, my travels often lead me to the further east.

The ongoing exploration of the “East” by Slovakian photographer Dia Takácsová is meant as a search of her personal roots, and as an investigation of the human’s impact on a piece of land, as well as the nature’s impact on human beings.

I am explaining this as a search of my personal roots, questions of identity and my curiosity about human’s impact on a piece of land as well as the nature’s impact on human. In “Land: Unknown” I try to observe more intense, leaving out the direct messages of “where” and “what”. There is no obvious time and space – just signs of the past and present of places in a state of transition.
Dia Takácsová (1992) is a Slovak photographer interested in questions of identity, physical and emotional connection to place and human relationship to nature and environment. Dia attended an international photo project in Paris, France documenting the topic urban territories/personal territories, and was a member of the Atelier of the Medium of Photography and the Atelier of Photography during her studies. A participant and graduate of Solidarity Academy 2016 in Gdansk, Poland whose blog was in the top 10 of the Slovak Blogger of the Year Competition’s Travel category in 2014. Dia is based between Slovakia and Germany.
