18 artists are creating works for the new JFK terminal, with a budget of 22 million

New York's John F. Kennedy Airport dedicates the new Terminal 6 to contemporary art: it will house the works of 18 international artists.

Thanks to a partnership with the Public Art Fund, the John F. Kennedy International Airport’s forthcoming Terminal 6 will soon welcome world-class art installations by eighteen international artists. Set to open in 2026, this 4.2 billion dollar terminal will host the largest permanent art collection of any New York Airport, featuring artists based in New York such as Barbara Kruger, Charles Gaines, Sky Hopinka and also international talents like Felipe Baeza, Uman, Nevin Aladağ and many more.

Following the successful art programs at LaGuardia Airport in Queens and Newark Liberty International Airport by the Port Authority, the planned artworks for Terminal 6 will seamlessly integrate with the terminal spaces, creating a unique “New York sense of place”.

Nina Chanel Abney, Laure Prouvost, and Haegue Yang will create suspended sculptures and installations alongside Nevin Aladağ, Charles Gaines, Barbara Kruger and Sky Hopinka’s wall-mounted works. Ten glass mosaic floor medallions by artists such as Shara Hughes, Eddie Martinez, Kambui Olujimi, Candida Alvarez, and Charline von Heyl will also be included.
