The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has announced the 26 winning projects of its National Awards, which are assigned each year to buildings across the UK in recognition of their significant contributions to the country’s architecture.
This year's recipient projects range in scale and location with large infrastructure schemes, like the Kings Cross masterplan, alongside high-quality rural houses and restoration plans.
Among the winners in London are the Battersea Power Station by WilkinsonEyre, the renovation of the National Portrait Gallery by Jamie Fobert Architects and Purcell, as well as a mass-timber office building by Waugh Thistleton Architects. The Elizabeth Line, with contributions from Grimshaw, Maynard, Equation, Atkins, and Weston Williamson + Partners, was also highlighted. While Northern Ireland had only one recipient with a rural family home by McGonigle McGrath Architects, Scotland's awards include a social housing project in Glasgow by Page\Park Architects and a gallery in Edinburgh. Notable restoration and adaptive reuse projects are Sheffield's Park Hill Estate, the 18th-century Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings, and the Bradbury Works workspace. Projects focused on sustainable materials are also featured, like the timber-framed dining hall at the University of Cambridge's Homerton College by Feilden Fowles and a non-denominational temple complex in Hampshire by James Gorst Architects.
