A new suspended pedestrian bridge over the water in Toronto

WilkinsonEyre will build the new Equinox Bridge in Toronto, Canada, in collaboration with Zeidler Architecture, Two Row Architect, and Arup. The bridge will connect the city’s central waterfront to Villiers Island and the park system along the new mouth of the Don River. Inspired by the deep connection between indigenous communities and the natural landscape, the bridge is intended to be a place for a more intimate relationship with the environment and the local indigenous community, who have been involved in its design.

Featuring a curved S-shaped platform, the Equinox Bridge is inspired by the typology of Port Lands bridges and offers stepped timber seating areas at both ends, emphasizing views aligned with the summer and winter solstice sunsets. The metal screens evoke the constellations of indigenous culture and are the result of consultation with the community's elders and knowledge keepers.
