Next to Palazzo Te, there were once the old stables of the House of Gonzaga, an Italian princely family, then the area turned into a lawn with sports fields and a large parking lot. Today there is the largest public park in Mantua: 79,710 square meters; 5 hectares of lawn – split vertically by a path with flush fountains – to accommodate events or informal activities and contributing to the improvement of the urban environment, mitigating the heat and favoring the permeability of the soil; 274 trees (Carpinus betulus, Quercus ilex, Platanus x acerifolia, Quercus robur pyramidalis x bimundorum, Celtis Australis); 1,400 meters of hedges, 620 square meters of shrubs and 955 square meters of rose gardens; 8 thematic rings to play, relax and exercise.

The park, designed by AG&P greenscape, wants to enhance the identity of Palazzo Te, restoring this important monument protected by UNESCO from the changes that have had to undergo in the last century due to the transformations of the surrounding urban area, connecting it and the city. The ambition is to meet the wishes and needs of all.

For sports lovers there are three “green rooms” with an outdoor gym, yoga platform, and a basketball area; three other rooms are dedicated to games for children of different ages; a small arena will allow outdoor teaching activities and also were installed table tennis, chess, and bowls. Four scenic rooms will then contain gardens of hydrangeas, aromas, grasses, and perennials. Two large circular squares can then accommodate temporary functions such as stages for shows or skating rinks. The lawn is also surrounded by a large ring where you can walk, run, ride a bike, or simply stop on the benches present.
