The regeneration of the former industrial areas Falck has been defined “the largest urban regeneration project” in Italy, and among the planned interventions stands out the new railway station by Renzo Piano in Viale Gramsci, with a panoramic glass walkway on the new urban park and the M1 metro line, with bars, shops and various services. The construction of the facility cost €15 million.
New Sesto San Giovanni station designed by Renzo Piano to open soon
The station, located on the outskirts of Milan, is intended to be an architectural link between two urban areas separated by the passage of the tracks, and will have a panoramic view of the new urban park.

After about a year and a half of work, the walkway that crosses the tracks – resting on the reinforced concrete pillars of the new bridge station, 292 feet long by 92 wide – covered by a glass roof 361 feet long and 28 meters wide, is about to be finished. The tunnel connecting with the metro line M1 and the new square of the station-Unione has been already completed; while the station should open on the Unione Zero side before autumn.
