Swedish carmaker Polestar has introduced the Polestar 4, a new electric performance SUV coupé positioned between the Polestar 2 and 3 in size and price. The vehicle combines aerodynamics and spaciousness while prioritizing rear occupant comfort. The design includes key elements from Polestar's previous concept cars, above all, the absence of the rear window.
“With Polestar Precept, we previewed a stunning new occupant experience by removing the rear window and pushing the rear header,” said Maximilian Missoni, Head of Design at Polestar. “This means that now, rear occupants can have a unique experience in our SUV coupé.”
Instead of a standard rear-view mirror, the car sports a high-definition display showing a real-time video feed from a roof-mounted read camera. According to Polestar, this solution offers a wider field of view than what can be experienced through a regular rear window in most modern cars.
Built on Geely Holding's Sustainable Experience Architecture, Polestar 4 features a large body, a long wheelbase, and a full-length glass roof with optional electrochromic functionality.
The car is available in dual- and single-motor versions, with the fastest model reaching 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. The single-motor versions will sport rear-wheel drive. The Dual long-range motor features 400 kW (544 hp), 686 Nm, and a preliminary range target of up to 560 km.
Moreover, Polestar 4 includes advanced safety features, such as a driver monitoring camera to detect fatigue or incapacitation and Mobileye's SuperVision Advanced Driver Assistance System.
Production is set to begin in China in November 2023, with a launch in the country by the end of the year. A full-scale launch is also planned for Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific in early 2024. Prices are still indicative, with Polestar 4 starting at € 60,000/ $60,000/ £55,000.
