The Saudi Arabian government plans to erect a giant cube-shaped 'skyscraper' - called Mukaab - as the centrepiece of a future 19-square-kilometre district to be built north-west of the capital Riyadh.

Due for completion in 2030, the building will be the tallest in the city, measuring 400 metres on each side, and will include shops, cultural and tourist attractions, and a spiral tower in the lobby that will be as tall as the whole structure.

The building will have an almost full-height atrium space, housing a spiraling tower; its facades will be made of overlapping triangular forms, which recall the modern Najdi architectural style; and it will contain two million square meters of shops, cultural and tourist attractions.
According to the Saudi Arabian government, the project is set to be completed by 2030, but the project has been harshly criticized for its environmental impact and alleged human rights abuses connected to the development, in particular by Amnesty International.
