The new San Siro stadium, dubbed ‘The Cathedral’ and designed by the Milan office of Populous with the support of EMEA multidisciplinary team in London, aims to inhance the opportunities and the services for the residents of the San Siro area, with an improvement in the quality of the neighborhood urban fabric, thanks to a park of 50,000 square metres and underground parking lots.
The project – which will be able to accomodate a maximum of 65,000 spectators (less than the 80,000 of the Meazza stadium) – sees a reconfiguration of the area currently occupied by the Meazza Stadium, with the creation of a new hub dedicated to sport and leisure.
‘The Cathedral’ wants to celebrate with its shape the cultural heritage of Milan. Its design, in fact, is inspired by two of the most notorious buildings of the city: the Duomo and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. Thanks to these references the stadium will be different from any other sport arena in the world.
