Project H1, by UNStudio, will turn an industrial site and railyard in Seoul into a dense mixed-use urban space, offering all contemporary amenities within a 10-minute walk. The pedestrian-friendly neighbourhood is complemented by a digital infrastructure developed by UNSense, providing an interface for managing energy production and consumption, local food, and the shared use of communal spaces.
As part of the focus on wellbeing, nature plays an important role in the composition of this new masterplan, inspired to a leaf, but not only. Outdoor living will be welcomed and surrounded by a network of gardens, parks, green roofs. The urban project, based on the principle of “productive landscape”, provides in fact for health and fitness programs’ organization, with climbing walls and running tracks.
The masterplan is divided into two zones of different densities, connected by three main squares. One area hosts eight residential towers with terraced spaces dedicated to leisure, commercial and cultural programs; the other is devoted to commercial and business areas, with a hotel, co-living residences, coworking spaces and an office model that combines the features of a house and a hotel, called “officetel”.
In addition, a new railway link will develop this industrial area close to the mountains, and Hyundai Development Company asked UNStudio to create a new mixed-use hub.
