Sony World Photography Awards 2019: Federico Borella is the Photographer of the Year

The winners for all the professional categories have been declared during  the ceremony for the 12th edition of the prestigious international award held in London.

The Italian Federico Borella is the Photographer of the Year according to the jury of the 2019 Sony World Photography Award. Five Degrees, his project about male sucide samong the farmer community of one of the Indian areas more affected by drought which has also won the Documentary Photograpoy section, has been choosen among the winners in each category of the competition, as Boxing Against Violence: The Female Boxers Of Goma by Alessandro Grassani (Sport) and Güle Güle by Jean-Marc Caimi e Valentina Piccinni (Scoperta). The german Stephen Zirwes has been awarded in the Architecture category with Cut Outs – Pools 2018, while to the British-Chinese Yang Wang Preston goes the Landscape one with To the South of the Colourful Clouds, part of the wider project Forest, and to the Spanish Álvaro Laiz the Portrait one with The Edge series. American artist Christy Lee Rogers is the Photographer of the Year in the Open category with the image Harmony, from her series Muses.
