Casio celebrates 60 years of calculators with a colourful solar-powered model

Casio’s 60th-anniversary calculator boasts a minimalist design and is made from eco-friendly materials that make scratches less noticeable. For now, it is only available in Japan.

Casio has been producing calculators for several decades, and to mark the 60th anniversary of its first model, the 001, the company has unveiled a colorful new device that harnesses solar power to operate. Named the Comfy JT-200T, the new calculator features an LCD screen capable of displaying up to 12 digits. Its casing is made of recycled resin blended with mica, giving it a grainy texture that helps conceal scratches, extends its lifespan, and provides a pleasant look and feel.

The calculator includes a foldable stand on the back, adjustable at an 8-degree angle for comfortable use even while seated. It is powered by a CR2025 battery, complemented by a small solar panel positioned on the top edge—rather than above or beside the display, as seen in previous Casio models. Additionally, the numbers and symbols on the keys use the same font as the Casio Mini, the world’s first personal calculator, launched by the company in 1972. The Comfy JT-200T is already available in five different colors, but only in Japan, where it can be ordered for 3,850 yen (approximately 25 euros). There are currently no details regarding its release in other markets.
