Jubilee 2025’s Mascot Luce is “a pilgrim girl” drawn in manga style

Luce was designed by illustrator Simone Legno, founder of Tokidoki, with the kawaii look for which he became famous.

The mascot of the upcoming Jubilee, declared by Pope Francis for 2025, depicts a young girl and takes inspiration from Japanese comics, or manga, in its aesthetic: “It was created with the intention of reflecting pop culture, especially loved by young people, and carries a message of hope and welcome,” explained the Vatican.

In Luce, a name that is certainly intentional, one can recognize all the key elements of a pilgrim: her shoes are muddy, her yellow raincoat protects her from the rain, and her staff supports her journey. Around her neck, she wears a missionary cross that highlights the value of pilgrimage as a personal and communal mission.

The creation of this pilgrim, who is sure to be a central figure next year, was brought to life by Simone Legno, a Roman illustrator devoted to pop culture and Eastern aesthetics. In 2005, Legno founded Tokidoki, a lifestyle brand that blends elements of Japanese pop culture, like the kawaii style and manga influences, with a touch of Western street art.

Luce is the first official symbol of the upcoming Jubilee—a highly anticipated event for the global Catholic community—and represents an invitation, especially for young people, to hold onto hope and enthusiasm.
