While the Centre Pompidou is preparing to close to the public starting in 2025 for renovations that will last over five years, the Pompidou x Jersey City project, which had been considered no logner viable at the beginning of the summer due to the withdrawal of financial support by the Economic Development Authority of the State of New Jersey, will be revived.
The opening plan, presented in 2021 and appointed to the OMA studio with Jason Long, was supposed to reactivate the Pathside Building and transform it into a cultural centre by 2024. Still, numerous setbacks and delays caused by economic difficulties and political differences seemed to have scuppered the initiative for good. In September 2024, however, the Jersey City Council approved a new plan that will provide for a different location - the museum will be housed in a 9,000 m² area on Pavonia Avenue - and a new tax abatement to avoid further political interferences.
