Over the past decade, the Centre Pompidou has engaged in a wide-ranging cultural cooperation effort to establish new venues outside Paris, developing an international network of satellites in Malaga, Brussels, and Shanghai. The Centre Pompidou x Jersey City, announced in 2021, was supposed to become the next satellite in this expansion plan. However, due to untenable costs, it will not be completed. The Pompidou’s cultural project, appointed to OMA studio with Jason Long, was intended to help reinvent and activate Jersey City’s iconic Pathside Building, a former industrial building in a residential neighborhood that has been receiving billions of dollars in public and private development deals, transforming it into a cultural and tourist hub. However, the project's opening date was pushed back, and its funding sources jeopardized due to concerns about the recurring costs of keeping the museum open. As a result, the project was officially called off.
