The European Commission, in collaboration with the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, has shared the data on the nominations for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture/Mies van der Rohe Awards (EU Mies Awards) 2024. The submitted projects – realized in Europe between April 2021 and May 2023 – are 362 in total and are located in 38 different European countries. In the number of projects submitted Italy ranks ninth, along with Lithuania: 13. Spain is in the lead with 29, followed by France with 26, Germany with 21, and Belgium with 18.
The jury, chaired by Frédéric Druot, will then select the 40 most significant projects and visit the finalists. This year’s is composed of Martin Braathen (Oslo), Pippo Ciorra (Rome), Tinatin Gurgenidze (Tbilisi/Berlin), Adriana Krnáčová (Prague), Sala Makumbundu (Luxembourg), and Hrvoje Njiric (Zagreb).
The focus of the 2024 edition will be on reflecting upon the challenges that citizens, architects, developers, institutions, and other professionals face in the context of the European Green Deal.
