The editorial staff of Domus has lost one of its most valued contributors. Marco Romanelli, born in Trieste in 1958, was a critic, historian, scholar, architect, journalist and designer: a militant of design. Editor at Domus from 1986 to 1994, he opened his own studio in Milan after working with Mario Bellini. A tireless divulger of the design world, his rich career boasts over 20 publications on living spaces and design. He has curated founding exhibitions in Italy and around the world, such as the one on Ico Parisi at the Milan Triennale or the one on Gio Ponti at the Design Museum in London. In the publishing world he has collaborated with Domus, Abitare, the magazine of Salone del Mobile.Milano and Inventario. As an architect, he designed private homes, restaurants, historic restorations and museums, and designed collections for a parterre of historic Italian design companies ranging from Fontana Arte to La Palma. His dual nature as a popularizer and designer has led him to the artistic direction of brands of the calibre of Driade and Poltrona Frau, and to teaching courses at Milan Polytechnic and IULM in Milan on cross-cutting and interdisciplinary themes such as jewellery design and art for public spaces. “If anything can still save the world, it will be beauty”, said Marco Romanelli in an interview published in Domusweb. It will be his irreplaceable teaching and his profound humanity that will fill, at least in part, the void he leaves behind.
