Under the theme “How much does design permeate our lives?”, the XXV edition of the ADI Compasso d’Oro has prized designers and companies that have distinguished themselves in the 2016-2018 biennium. The award foresees 16 Prizes, 56 Mentions, 10 Certificates and 3 prizes for the Youth Section, 11 Lifetime Achievement awards. The projects have been selected among the ones identified in the two annual ADI Design Indexes from 2016 and 2017, 283 in total. These are compiled by the permanent Design Observatory, conducted by an active body since 2000, which consists of about 150 designers, researchers and specialist journalists.
The winning projects belong to various categories including product design, exhibition design, book design, product system service design, car design and fashion design. The companies include Alfa Romeo, Enel, Artemide, Boffi, Elica, Tubes Radiatori, Secco Sistemi, Unical, IFI, Technogym, Vibram and Prada. The winning products are the Alfa Romeo Giulia, the Discovery lamp by Ernesto Gismondi, the Eclipse bath tap by Studiocharlie, the Nikolatesla home appliance by Fabrizio Crisà, the Origami radiator by Alberto Meda, the OS2 75 window by Alberto Torsello and the OSA boiler of Ilaria Jahier, Igor Zilioli, Sergio Fiorani and Gian Luca Angiolini.
Moreover, the Furoshiki footwear by Vibram, the walker Skillmill by Technogym, the compact ice cream shop Popapp by IFI and the illustrated books Food Design in Italy by Alberto Bassi and Matera Cityscape by Alberto Giordano, Nicola Colucci, Leonardo Sonnoli – Tassinari / Vetta. There are also two awards related to museums: OMA wins the Compasso d’Oro for the Prada Foundation in Milan, while Migliore + Servetto Architects were awarded for the museum exhibition “Leonardiana. A new museum”, commissioned by the municipality of Vigevano. The exhibition will be open until June 26, 2018 at the Cortile della Rocchetta of the Castello Sforzesco in Milan.
