As part of the “Situations” exhibition format launched two years ago, “Post Fail (#101 to #110)” is the latest installment launched at the Fotomuseum Winterthur in Switzerland. “Situations” is a research lab that investigates photographic processes in a wide visual and cultural context and aims at challenging our understanding of photography. Guest-curated by Matteo Cremonesi in cooperation with the Link Art Center in Brescia, Italy, the newest addition to the exhibition series refrains from the paradigm of realistic photography and seeks new ways to capture and express the reality of our ‘post fail’ condition defined by the lack of the concept of future and the demand for an extra effort in order to comprehend the present moment.

Featuring a selection of works by ten artists and collectives, the program has a critical, ironic take on the digital society: a few highlight include IOCOSE’s photo series focuses on Bangalore as one of the major information technology hubs worldwide, exposing the blatant artificiality of the technological progress and its traces on the urban landscape; Adam Basalt’s interactive installation reproduces a daily situation in which two lovers can only interact through their smartphones and is a powerful commentary on the extent to which digital technologies increasingly mediate our interpersonal relationships; Felicity Hammond’s apocalyptically charged collage Capital Growth transports the viewer in a utopian dimension.
