Children’s Day in China

Rotterdam-based Collective Paper Aesthetics designed a cardboard construction module for China’s Children’s Day that kids could use to create geometric installations.

Children’s Day in China was first introduced in 1949, after the State Council dedicated a half day off for all primary schools across the country on June. The holiday has been extended to a full day since 1956. For the occasion Rotterdam-based studio Collective Paper Aesthetics designed three dimensional cardboard blocks to play with.

The work was committed by the New World Department Store in Beijing and also served as a temporary installation. The event attracted hundreds of children and parents who gathered and played with the cardboard pieces. They created complex structures and organized competitions to build the tallest structure. The design was meant as a creative happening and visual merchandising.
