The Vertical Pavilion

Architects Clément Carrière and Alma Gazeau designed a climbing wall at the Pavillon de l’Arsenal, Paris, a hybrid installation, halfway between the worlds of culture and athletics.

This hybrid, contemporary installation, halfway between the worlds of culture and athletics, is inspired by Paris’ bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics. At the foot of the wall, a digital model of the Pavillon de l’Arsenal wears the Paris 2024 colors and, in partnership with the Grand Paris Project and Vectuel, it has installed a 40 sqm 2D and 3D interactive screen that allows visitors to discover the Olympic installations planned across the city.

The climbing wall will remain set up for the entire summer in the middle of the Pavillon de l’Arsenal’s exhibition spaces as part of a summer program for Parisian recreation centers. More than 1,500 children have been invited to come learn to climb in July and August and to share in the spirit of Paris’ 2024 Olympic bid.
