Martino Gamper’s Weft to Warp collection, which includes three different carpets, explores the many carving skills of carpets, creating a three-dimensional texture. Rotations, the new piece designed by Patricia Urquiola for cc-tapis plays on repeating and overlapping cylindrical shapes that emphasize the circle as a design matrix, giving and overall plastic effect to the composition.
Keeping in mind the playfulness of the Memphis movement, Mae Engelgeer experiments and combines different shapes, colours and materials by combining Himalayan wool and pure silk: this way she creates real “apartment jewels”. In Chiara Andreatti’s collection, there is a strong connection to the ancient Japanese houses, where the carpets were laid around the fire or close to the irori, the very heart of the house. It is a mat with natural details made only by using non-dyed waxes that appear in different shades, from brown/sand to dirty whites. Faye Toogood went through her personal material collection to create her own carpets with post-industrial influences, playing with overlapping and stratification.
