The Foundation poetic

Spazio Krizia is showing Formafantasma’s light study, an experiment with the properties of colour matter and reflections. #MDW2017

Hosted by Spazio Krizia, “Foundation” presents some of a current Formafantasma study of light, completed with fixtures designed for Flos and shown at Euroluce. The exhibition amasses a selection of luminous objects from the Delta collection, designed for the Galleria Giustini/Stagetti, Galleria O. Roma, and a number of light experiments developed for the independent Peep-Hole art centre in Milan. It also previews a new partnership between the two designers and the Textiel Museum in Tilburg (2018).

As is often the case with their works, Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin have had fun with the given theme, exploring all its technical and expressive aspects. “We reflected on all the aspects, from the use of optics to the effects of reflection, from the importance of shadow to the relationship with light and colour.” Elements that may initially seem more sculptural also reveal a functional intent. Tests 1, 3 and 7, for instance, project vibrant and colourful reflections onto the walls using stratified layers of dichroic glass.

The luminous objects were conceived in response to a lack of colour saturation in the winter months. Some Tests are created with stationery materials (pencils and rubbers) and standard industrial materials (steel bars, bricks and insulation materials). When Formafantasma employs bronze, the quintessential sign of sculpture, they do so primarily for its technical properties - its weight and reflective properties.
