Dedicated to candle lovers, Snuffer brings back a left-behind accessory, redesigned using brass, concrete and cork by Brooklyn-based studio Avandi and Keap candle makers.
Brooklyn-based designers Avandi and candle company Keap, rethink a left-behind accessory, the candle snuffer. The piece is crafted from three materials: brass, concrete and cork. Each piece was assembled by hand in Brooklyn, in a limited run of 100.
The collaboration was a natural fit given Avandi’s previous work with candle and incense holders, and the proximity of the two companies’ studios in Red Hook and Sunset Park. “More and more people are burning candles, but the accessories that accompany them have been forgotten and left untouched by designers”, says Keap founder Harry Doull.
“Starting from the usual cone, we explored various typologies before settling on an unusual, spherical, solid brass construction that works just as well and provides a new perspective” explains Ariane van Dievoet, Avandi’s founder. The concrete base offers the additional benefit of providing somewhere to put the matches used to light the candle.
