Ten Canadian projects, plus one to think about.

FABG Architectes, residenza Rosenberry, Quebec, 2016
This week ten projects from Canada among the ones recently publushed on domusweb, plus one: The Evidence room by the Waterloo University School of Architecture, presented at the Architecture Venice Biennale to think about injustice, lie and architecture.

– Designed by Snøhetta in Toronto, with facades composed of a digitally-printed fritted glass that envelops the rugged armature and pared-down aesthetic of the exposed concrete structure, the Student Learning Centre is a building that demands to be engaged with.

– Scott and Scott Architects designed a space to celebrate the process of making the ice cream, and used soapstone – a traditional material for laboratories – for the counter.

– Designed as a holiday house in the middle of the woods, this residence by FABG architects is developed around two different speeds: for the young and for the old generations.

– Derived from the archetypal image of the house, Jean Verville developed a graphic assemblage for this cottage in Canada to stimulate the imaginary of its inhabitans, a couple with two children.

– After spending two years on wheels, the Pista Café Mobile in Montreal settles down in a luminous café designed by Les Ateliers Guyon, shifting from nomad to sedentary.

– With compact spaces that interact through double and triple heights, the house on the lake designed by Atelier Pierre Thibault is immersed in the Canadian forests.

– FABG Architects were asked to refreshen Montréal’s Joliette Museum of Art, with some architectural additions, the cleaning of the original structure and a new interior design.

– Studio Scott & Scott Architects transformed a shop into a space dedicated to Japanese knives and culture in Vancouver, lead by chef Douglas Chang.

– Symbolizing the journey of Hungarian refugees after the 1956 uprisings, the Hello Wood team designed Tunnel Through Time, a wooden installation in Toronto.

– B+H Architects and Hariri Pontarini Architects designed a new addition to University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law, creating a new landmark in the area with a rhythmic facade of glass and nickel fins.

– At the 15. Venice Biennale the installation by the Waterloo University School of Architecture sheds lights on the battle for truth, connecting architectural evidences with the recent history of the Holocaust.
