Compasso d’Oro 2016

The renowed Italian design prize held the award ceremony and presents the exhibition of 237 products in the historical courtyards of Palazzo Isimbardi, in Milan. 

The XXIV ADI Compasso d’Oro exhibition takes place in Milan with 237 design products from every category, on display in the courtyard and the halls of the historic building Palazzo Isimbardi,  ranging from furniture to lighting, from transport to services and personal items, all physically present or visible on video.

Giorgio Palù, Michele Bianchi, Auditorium Giovanni Arvedi, Fondazione Giovanni Arvedi e Luciana Buschini, 2015. Design for communication – Compasso d’Oro for having created a concept of harmony comparable to a large scale musical instrument through beauty and elegance

  The award ceremony announced the winners of the 2016 edition to which will be added, as usual, the Premio alla Carriera (Lifetime Achievement Awards), the International Awards and the Targa Giovani (Youth Section) awards, presented for projects from Italian design schools.

Nicolas Frey, Claudio Franco, Dahu Ski Boot, Daho Sports, 2014. Design for the individual – the design revises the traditional construction of the plastic shell and replaces it with a minimal lattice structure, designed to withstand the stresses and movements during skiing
<b>Left</b>: Claudio Lucchese, Florim Magnum Oversize, Florim Ceramiche, 2015. Design of materials and technological systems – nine extra-large coating formats as an experiment in the dimensional limits of ceramics and new types of installations both in contract and consumer environments <b>Right:</b> Elisa Giovannoni, Scaletta, Tubes Radiatori, 2015. Design for living – an aluminum electric towel holder inspired by the archetypal rung ladder but changes its function. The product is available in two versions: wall-mounted and freestanding

Paolo Barichella, Espresso al quadrato, Caffè Morettino, 2015. Food design – square coffee capsule. The filter body, made of 100 recyclable food grade paper, combines experience, excellence, ecology and ethical design in a few grams
Fabrizio Crisà, Nuage, Elica, 2015. Design for living – wall-mounted extraction hood with the option of covering the outer shell with plasterboard, tiles, mosaic or paint, allowing a perfect symbiosis with the wall
Marta Giardini con Marco Bertolini, Perpetua, Alisea Recycled & Reused Objects Design, 2015. Design for the individual – pencil created from Zantech, a patented material consisting of 80% graphite recovered from the electrode production process
Cordivari, Sistema Stratos, 2015. Design of materials and technological systems – its compact size means that it can be installed in traditionally difficult or excluded situations because of structural constraints, space or building integration problem
Palomba Serafini Associati, Wazebo, Zucchetti Rubinetteria, 2015. Design for living – an outdoor shower, able to transfer the comfort, protection and functions of the internal shower stall outside without sacrificing its relationship with its surroundings

  The awards for products, assigned by a panel of international experts, represent the highest recognition in Italian design and have been presented since 1954. The winning products will go to expand the ADI Compasso d’Oro Foundation Collection which has brought together award-winning objects since 1954. As of this year the Compasso d’Oro will take place every other year, alternating with the international edition of the ADI Compasso d’Oro International Award (which will also take place every two years).

Anna Matosova, Lulka, Libera Università of Bolzano, 2014. Youth Section – a practical and welcoming cot in walnut and cotton, which can also become a versatile object that grows and changes with the baby
Matteo Semprini, Vedetta, Università degli Studi della Repubblica di San Marino, 2014. Youth section – Following a road accident a sensor changes colour if it detects a deceleration greater than 100 g, a figure that indicates probable concussion
Fabrizio Alessio, TooWheels, Turin Politecnico, 2014. Youth Section – an easily replicable product with a strong social impact that indicates a notable level of sensitivity on the part of the student who designed it. A good example of empathetic design
