Opened during Design Week Mexico, the exhibition at Archivo Diseño y Arquitectura focuses on 30 iconic Italian objects from its collection together with specially commissioned projects.
Archivo/Italia, a celebration of Italian design in the Archivo Diseño y Arquitectura collection, explores new possibilities for galleries and questions the traditional focus on objects exhibition.
This year’s edition of Design Week Mexico, one of the most important design events in Latin America, hosted Italy as guest country. Archivo Diseño y Arquitectura, a unique archive/gallery dedicated to collecting, exhibiting and rethinking design in Mexico, joined the celebration of Italy’s contributions to design in the XXth and XXIst centuries with the opening of Archivo/Italia, an exhibition featuring a selection of 30 iconic Italian design pieces from its study collection of over 1800 Mexican and international design objects and specially commissioned projects by FIG, Salottobuono, Space Caviar, and APRDELESP.
In the second half of the 20th century, Italy was a crucial refernce for the development of contemporary design and experimental architecture. The exhibition goes further from the traditional point of view focusing not only on the object but offering parallel visions about design, architecture, media, and spatial practice.
