With the Mariposa sofa for Vitra Barber & Osgerby continue their investigation into dynamic forms of seating, begun in 2011 with the Tip Ton chair.

Barber & Osgerby: Mariposa
“Designing a sofa isn’t very interesting if you don’t find another way to make it”, explains Jay Osgerby. The Mariposa Sofa for Vitra conveys a great sense of comfort thanks to its well-balanced proportions.
The comfort is given on one hand by the soft upholstery that evenly envelop the user with cushions, preventing contact with the rigid components; on the other a refined mechanism to adjust the arms and back that enables the sofa to be adapted for a seated or lying position.

This function is not visible: the arms and back are slender, gradually and silently angled around 30°. Resistance is given in such a way that the arms and back do not move when you lean back but are inclined as desired by applying greater pressure.

This flexibility enables the sitter to find the position they find most comfortable. Thanks to the added depth of the seat, the sofa can sit two people one in front of the other along the length, to chat or read together.

All in all, the Mariposa sofa invites you to put your feet up and make yourself comfortable.
