Vitra Swing Sofa

At Orgatec 2012, the German furniture manufacturer presented its new Swing Sofa: designed by Werner Aisslinger, this rocking sofa introduces a quiet moment of relaxation into the busy office environment.

German furniture designer Werner Aisslinger has completed the Swing Sofa for Vitra. The rocking sofa, designed for office spaces, was presented at Orgatec 2012 in Cologne.

Despite the fact that a rocking sofa is usually associated with leisurely activity — such as a rocking chair on the front porch, or a swing set at the childrens' playground — the German furniture manufacturer has introduced this quiet moment of relaxation into the busy office environment.

The Swing Sofa's cushions allow for retreat from the everyday. The soda offers space for two for taking a break to unwind, or have a creative talk one-on-one. Hung from a sturdy metal A-frame structure, the swinging sofa provides a smooth, back-and-forth movement.

Special care was given to the safety of the swing. Overly-vigorous pushes are prevented by a special spring that is integrated into the upper beam. This newly developed mechanism softly absorbs the impact of the movement and, at the same time, preventing the swing from exceeding its natural bounds within the office.
