On the occasion of Design Week, BASE Milan will host this year's IKEA Festival, a rich programme of events and immersive experiences to tell the future of retail and design. The aim of the event, which will take place from 6 to 12 June, will be to investigate how people’s relationship with their homes has evolved, showing how it is possible to improve everyday life by living domestic spaces in a conscious way.
The different days will be dedicated to previews of upcoming collections and meetings in the company of designers and long-standing collaborators. This year’s event will feature, among others, Fredrika Inger, Global Range Manger at IKEA of Sweden, Design Manager Johan Ejdemo, and interior designers Mikael Axelsson and Friso Wiersma.
Specifically on Tuesday 7 June, the Festival will open with Democratic Design Talk, a conversation with British designer Ilse Crawford about humanistic design and the new home fragrance range. On Wednesday 8 June, the dialogue continues with the Marimekko brand and designer Sabine Marcelis. Finally, on Thursday 10 June, we highlight the presentation of the new collection produced in collaboration with Swedish House Mafia.
Also scheduled are evening events and musical preformances by international artists with prior registration, such as Ghali, Jamie xx and Seinabo Sey and Viagra Boys.
Throughout the week it will be possible to visit Ögonblick - A Life at home exhibition, a physical and digital installation inspired by H22. The latter is a project in Helsingborg, Sweden, in which IKEA is participating with the aim of building “the sustainable city of the future”. In the work, IKEA wants to tell the story of different moments in life through a deep understanding of people and their relationship with their homes, analysed every year through the Life at Home Report.
