Studio Joe Velluto: design through Zen

Studio Joe Velluto has long been involved in investigating the relationship between design and Zen, promoting workshops and lectures on this topic. Andrea Maragno, frontman of the firm and Zen lay monk says: “this discipline aims to remove those mental structures, those schemes we are generally used and addicted. It's a process to see the world with new eyes and free from the many superstructures we all have.” Zen is therefore a mental condition necessary to live better and create true innovation in design.

LIVE NOW DESIGN LATER is a journey of visual experiences and reflections, all mediated by your smartphone thanks to a special digital project by studio Young Digitals. The path will lead spectators to think about objects and their use through questions and interactions to which they will be asked to respond.
Have you ever wondered if the little statue of Madonna of Lourdes is a mystical symbol or just a piece of plastic? Is the switch made to turn on or off? Are you able to evaluate reality from another point of view, more creative, or do you prefer to live a pre-conceived reality?
Each answer is a small meditation about objects and our existence. We all make choices, make evaluations in our daily lives. These are seemingly free choices but... are they really? Or are they actually derived from preconceptions that usually do not allow us to explore new points of view?

In a perfect harmony with the Zen spirtit, the goal will be to overturn our perception of things, not giving easy answers, but raising true questions.    

The LIVE NOW DESIGN LATER exhibition is curated by Guido Musante.
It is held at L20, Centro Zen Metropolitano in Milan.
