As is the case every year, leading automotive brands are taking part in the Fuorisalone event (from 9 to 14 April) with evocative installations representing their philosophy and concept of future mobility. It is also an opportunity to present new models as well as the prototypes currently under development.
Fuorisalone 2019, the future of mobility
As is tradition, the event dedicated to design is open to the automotive segment, with new mobility systems characterised by innovation and sustainability. Here are the most important.

Peugeot
The brand with the Lion emblem will be in Via Savona 56 exhibiting three national previews which were presented at the Geneva Motor Show: the new 208, with a 100% electric version as well as the petrol and diesel models; the e-Legend concept, the prototype which represents the manufacturer’s idea for future mobility in terms of electrification, autonomous driving and connected vehicles; and the Monumental Lion, approximately 5 metres tall and 12 metres long, which has been a symbol of the brand for over 160 years, created by the Peugeot Design Lab. Lastly the project #UNBORINGTHEFUTURE produced by the Peugeot Design Lab, which is an exhibition that presents and develops the process undertaken by Peugeot towards electrification from various viewpoints, with animation developed specially for the event. Peugeot is the main sponsor for the 2019 Domus Design Week Special.
Lexus
During the Milan event dedicated to design and creativity, Lexus will be presenting (at SuperstudioPiù in Via Tortona 27) its vision of design via the installation “Leading with light” created by the Japanese firm Rhizomatiks. Light, a symbol of innovation and human development, is the undisputed protagonist of the immersive experience offered by Toyota’s luxury brand.
Hyundai
The brand is taking part in Fuorisalone 2019 with an exhibition inspired by the motto “Style Set Free” at Opificio 31. On this occasion it will be previewing new interpretations of a unique experience, living with vehicles in the era of autonomous driving. The brand thus presents the innovative approach to the design of electric vehicle interiors, presenting a futuristic concept in which artistic forms related to future lifestyles come to life.
BMW
The German brand will be the protagonist of the first edition of BluE, an event dedicated to the mobility of the future, thanks to its experience in the field of electric mobility. The BMW iX3 concept vehicle, the group's first electrically-powered SAV expected to be launched in 2020, will be present. The streets around Porta Venezia will also feature the e-bikes of the car manufacturer, which is also a partner in two initiatives with Casa Lago and Studio Locatelli.
Honda
The event celebrates the first public appearance of the Honda e-Prototype following its launch at the Geneva Motor Show. The vehicle is a preview of the mass-production electric battery-powered model mass created for the European market by the brand and will be available as of the second half of the year. For the event, the manufacturer has created an environment inspired by the design concept of the Honda e-Prototype, “Honda experience - Casa Connessa Tortona”, an immersive experience dedicated to this presentation to the general public. Visitors will be able to enjoy an immersive experience which is centred around the “Tree of Energy”, an important element in the design of this model. At Garden House, Via Tortona 21.
Land Rover
“Live for the City & The Art of Urban Being” is an evocative interactive itinerary set up at the Blindarte Gallery in the Brera district (Via Palermo 11), where the design of the new Range Rover Evoque has been re-interpreted in an artistic key. It is a project which aims to reveal the car in all its essence, designed according to the principles of responsible luxury. There are two open-air installations, one in the Tortona district and the other in Brera.
Jaguar
Taking its cue from the values of inclusion, freedom and creativity, the designers at Jaguar have created a journey of discovery which will begin with a deconstructed view of the Jaguar XE at the heart of the Chiostro Nina Vinchi at the Piccolo Teatro Grassi (in Via Rovello 2). “The Future Legacy” will be carried by the Jaguar XE. The components of the elegant car will be suspended in the air in order to present every detail of its construction, angled to allow a complete view. You can also see the complete car exhibited in the Cortile dell’Orologio in Palazzo Litta (Corso Magenta 24).
Citroën
In the year of its centenary, Citroën is presenting an installation curated by Matteo Ragni Studio at Via Stendhal 35. An exhibitive itinerary presenting the evolution of the company right up to the contemporary vision of the French brand. At the end, visitors will be welcomed by a design object created by Matteo Ragni and inspired by the Citroën logo. Inside the installation, a majestic sculpture made of various car components which come together to form the famous Double Chevron which has always represented Citroën. This is “Made With Icons”, a creation made by the designer Jean-Baptiste Sénéquier with the aim of celebrating the brand’s centenary through objects which are a clear expression of Citroën. Lastly, in a continuous dialogue between the past and the present, two emblematic cars pay tribute to the history of the brand: The Citroën 2CV, signed “Origins since 1919” and paying tribute to the past, and the Citroën C5 Aircross, the new modern and technological SUV.
Audi
The “e_Domesticity” installation designed by the Asymptote Architecture New York form, which symbolises a revolutionary recharging station, will be present in Piazza Sempione and also takes a look at the evolution of architecture in relationship with the progress in the electric revolution. The Arco della Pace and the Caselli Daziari will be playing host to the Audi City Lab; workshops for ideas and innovation offering multidiscipline activities and events, the central theme being, of course, the sustainable mobility revolution. Audi City Lab will also be present in the Cortile d’Onore at Milan University in partnership with Interni, via a panel which will lead visitors to discover the main installation, while in Via Montenapoleone a display case designed by Edra will reflect its values.
Volvo
Polestar, the high-performance electric vehicle brand owned by the Volvo Car Group and Zhejiang Geely Holding, will lead us towards the future with “Into the Light” (at Opificio 31, Via Tortona 31). A double exhibition which focuses on the electric future of cars and is presented in two structures. One is a service station which represents the most innovative engineering achievements, and the other is a racetrack for model cars.
Tesla
Design week will see the first ever opening of the Tesla Design Lounge in Piazza Gae Aulenti, turning it into a meeting point conceived by The Way Magazine, which has called on Radicity (an association of architects which deals with ecologically sustainable urban regeneration) and Saket Sethi (the Indian architect who has designed the private home with the largest “green rooftop” in India) to represent the concept of green energy through an installation.
