Marco Pierini (Siena 1966) graduated and got his doctorate in Aesthetics from the University of Siena.
He was the director of the Museo Diocesano di Pienza since May 1998 to December 2007.
Since January 2002 to March 2010 he was the director of the Palazzo delle Papesse Contemporary Art Center in Siena which was moved on June 1st 2008 to the museum complex of Santa Maria della Scala and rebranded SMS Contemporanea.
Since June 2010 to December 2014 he ran the Galleria Civica of Modena. From October 1, 2015 he is the Director of the National Gallery of Umbria in Perugia and of the Regional Direction of Museums of Umbria. From 1 December 2019 to November 1, 2020 he was the Director (ad interim) of the National Gallery of Marche in Urbino.
He has lectured on Contemporary Art and Media and on Philosophy of Images at the University of Siena. He has been Contemporary art history professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara.
From 2015 he is Contemporary art history professor at The University of San Marino (RSM) and from 2019 he is Economics of Culture professor at the University of Perugia.
He is a member of the Accademia Senese degli Intronati, the Accademia Vannucci of Perugia, the Accademia Etrusca in Cortona, the Accademia Raffaello in Urbino.
He curated more than 50 museum exhibitions in many Italian towns, in Spain, France, Ireland, Switzlerland, Brasil, Russia.
As an author he published many essays and books about Art, Aesthetics and Music.
