In 1917, Dutch designer and architect Gerrit Rietveld opened his own furniture workshop, and designed a piece meant to become an icon of modern design. His armchair's iconic color pattern came only a year later, after the influence of the De Stijl art movement, that Rietveld joined himself in 1919. Part of MoMa's permanent collection, the New York-based museum received the chair as a gift from Philip Johnson, and states that the red, blue and yellow color were added in 1023. The chair is now part of the portfolio of Italian iconic furniture brand Cassina. A new limited edition, completely recolored by the cult fashion (former skate) company Supreme, has just been launched. It's totally red. Earlier this year, Cassina had another important collaboration with the fashion world, launching a design by Off-White's creator, the late Virgil Abloh, during the Salone del Mobile week.
