Common Sense: an Instagram account celebrates the beauty of glass

An Italian project that will soon become an e-commerce puts together vintage design pieces in a tribute to ephemeral design.

The Instagram account is so intriguing at a glance that it seems to enter a dreamlike dimension. Common Sense offers a sophisticated selection of products whose protagonist is glass in all its forms, among close details, shadow projections, coloured backgrounds and sparkling light effects. The project, born in 2020, is curated by Milanese art director Elena Mora and will soon be accompanied by a dedicated e-commerce, for now you just need to send a private message to buy the proposed products.

“The initial idea was to work with glass objects,” she tells us. “It all started with a phase of researching vintage objects, found both online and in markets, most of them dating back to the 70s and 80s, when there was a lot of experimentation and production in the field of glass, even if only for decorative purposes”. As we were saying the proposal is well defined, there are also pieces by Ettore Sottsass, Carlo Nason, Tapio Wirkkala, Timo Sarpaneva and others. “The selection of vintage products on the Instagram is a sort of launch collection,” continues Elena Mora, who for brand identity and creative direction relied on her brother, the art director Alberto Mora. “The next year we will be thinking of a dedicated e-commerce. The idea is also to design our own pieces, working on a capsule collection of ornamental objects. We want also to start collaborations with artists and glass craftsmen, also as an opportunity to scout emerging artists”.
